Daniel and Laura's Alaskan Wedding

I've heard it said that this past July 7th was the most popular date (ever?) to get wed - we had the privilege of witnessing my nephew Daniel tie the knot with his beautiful bride, Laura, on that day, as well as document their day in photos. I spent the morning with Laura and her friends as she prepared for her wedding, and captured some images that I absolutely love of her. It was so hard to contain myself and just post one image from this sequence!

This is my nephew Daniel, the groom (how fast they grow up!) -

Laura's two sisters flew up from California to be at her side. Laura's main requirement for photos was that they should be fun - leave it to sisters to provide the entertainment!

Add in a cousin, two new sisters-in-law, and the party's complete...

Laura and her dad, Jim -
Daniel and Laura chose to be wed in the same church that his brother Nate and wife Lexi were married in not so long ago - the First Baptist Church of Palmer.

One thing I love about our telephoto zoom lens is the incredible close-up shots it can take from a distance. I've given up trying to use the lens at weddings...it never leaves Gabriel's camera. That's okay by me, though - he does such a great job with it and has a fantastic eye for detail. This was taken by Gabriel of Daniel and Laura's first communion together.

Daniel's mom Kathe and his grandmother Charlotte spent hours creating this work of art for the wedding celebration. I've tried cake decorating - once! - and know first hand how difficult the task is. They did such a beautiful job, I needed to showcase it here.

This is my "big" brother, Steve (also known as Daniel's dad) -

It's been said that Daniel has a strong dislike of these boots, but I asked Laura to bring them along for their pictures after the reception. We went back to the old-fashioned tourist area (now abandoned) for their photo shoot, a place her boots fit right in.

Unfortunately, the rain had set in and it was difficult to create the images I had pre-envisioned. We did the best we could under the circumstances...

Our last stop was at Lake Lucille, on the water's edge with a beautiful lakeside view. Alyssa did a great job of filling in as an extra photographer, as evidenced by this great image she captured below...

Daniel and Laura anticipated the rain, and bought this umbrella as a prop the day before, just in case. It was very handy and fit the theme of their wedding perfectly.

Daniel and Laura, thank you for inviting our family to share in your wedding day. We pray that your lives will be filled with much joy, friendship, laughter, fun, and of course, an abundance of love. Blessings to you from the Varelas!

Simply awesome Lorraine. It helped I'm sure to have such photogenic people to work with...like the two most handsome Fathers in the world (Jim and I)...Ok, ok, the bride was stunning as well.

Blessing on you and your business.

Hey Steve -

Yes, I did notice how good-looking the fathers happened to be...once you pointed it out to me (hehe!) Naw, just kidding - I noticed right away how fantastic everyone looked.

It was great to experience Alaska with our family, and to share in the joy of this special day together. Thanks for the blessings - we receive it!

Haha... I was quite worried when Laura told me that an "aunt" was taking the pictures at her wedding (I'm Laura's cousin Tim...) I had visions of "uncle bob" with a lovely minolta and some cheesey stuff.

I'm super stoked to see the AWESOME job you did on their wedding pictures!!! I'm bummed I was already booked for their date and couldn't make it, but sooo happy that you were they to capture the day so beautifully for them!!

Great stuff!

Hey Tim,

I was able to get acquainted with your work while in Alaska, as your dad pointed me in the right direction. What a privilege to attend Brooks! I remember going there on a field trip when I was in high school (back in the...well, a long time back!) and being completely impressed and overwhelmed at the same time. I did make it back there 20 years later for a weekend portrait workshop with Joyce Wilson. Visiting the campus alone is worth the trip!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm sorry you weren't able to attend the wedding. Blessings to you and to your business!
