Alyssa's 15th Photo Shoot in Alaska

It's a tradition in our home to have a photo session at every birthday - for my girls, that is! This year Alyssa wanted to wait until our trip to Alaska to have something different to commemorate her 15th birthday. Being away from home and in a new environment provided a challenge to find places for Alyssa's session, but this spot caught our attention right away. It was the site of a former tourist site - or at least, that's how it appeared from the road - with an old-fashioned western theme, a general store, a cabin, a mine shaft, and 1950's era cars abandoned in the lot. I loved the idea of using this old Cadillac in a shot...
Of course, Alyssa chose Alaska for her photo shoot for the beautiful, scenic natural surroundings, and places that hit this mark were not hard to find. Here she is on the "Little Sue" River as we headed towards Hatcher's Pass.

The weather wasn't cooperating as we would have liked for the shoot, so we had to find some creative spots to keep dry and still have great light for her pictures. Just downstream on the river we found this tunnel under a bridge. Taking pictures in our family is truly a family affair. The set-up...

...and the resulting images:

It's obvious we were not the first ones to discover the charm of this underpass - it seemed like many artists made their way there before us. We were more than happy to incorporate their artwork into Alyssa's images.

Alyssa was not going to be satisfied until we found a spot with the awesome majestic mountain views for her final pictures. This was exactly what we had in mind!

We love you, Alyssa! I hope that these images will be a blessing in your life as you remember turning 15 and the joy, beauty and love in life that surrounds you.

Very, very creative to take something as unsightly as graffiti and redeem it, and turn it into something of beauty—great job!

I'm glad you liked the result. I believe that was Alyssa's choice to be photographed in the tunnel, and I too liked the way it turned out. Thanks!
